SISTEMAS DE EMBALAJE SORSA, S.A. has received a grant for its energy saving and efficiency project "Energy efficiency action in the manufacture of strapping" co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF), coordinated by IDAE and managed by the autonomous regions, under the National Energy Efficiency Fund, with the aim of achieving a cleaner and more sustainable economy. An energy saving and efficiency project has been developed, consisting of the replacement of old pre-treating and extrusion equipment for the manufacture of PET strapping with new, highly energy-efficient equipment. The collaboration of the best equipment manufacturers in the sector has been required, which will provide us with great energy and environmental savings in the process. The project will save 41.3 toe per year.
SISTEMAS DE EMBALAJE SORSA, S.A. has received a grant for its self-consumption project ".Installation of solar photovoltaic for self-consumption at the El Guixaró plant."The project is co-financed by the European Recovery and Resilience Mechanism PRTR-Next Generation EU, coordinated by the Ministry for Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge through IDAE and managed by the autonomous regions according to Royal Decree 477/2021, with the aim of achieving a cleaner and more sustainable economy. A project of self-consumption with renewable energy sources has been developed, consisting of an installation of photovoltaic panels in the facilities of SISTEMAS DE EMBALAJE SORSA, S.A. in Colònia El Guixaró. In this project, 575 modules of 550 Wp with a total power of 308 kW have been installed.
SORSA PACKAGING SYSTEMS SA takes a firm step towards sustainability by calculating its Carbon Footprint
In its commitment to sustainability and environmental responsibility, SORSA has carried out a project focused on improving its environmental performance by calculating its organizational Carbon Footprint.
This initiative, developed by the company's Innovation and Technological Transformation Unit, has been carried out with the support of the Coupons Green program of ACTION, and has allowed the company to identify and quantify the greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions derived from its activity, following internationally recognized methodologies such as the ISO 14064 standard and the GHG Protocol, also in line with the regulations of MITECO and the Catalan Strategy for Adaptation to Climate Change 2021-2030 (ESCACC30).
Founded in 1966, SORSA is a global supplier of strapping systems, offering solutions ranging from manual processes to complete plant automation. The company supplies tools, heads, and automatic machines, as well as polyester, polypropylene, and steel strapping and various complementary accessories. Since 1990, SORSA has manufactured polyester strapping and currently operates a 24/7 production plant in El Guixaró (Barcelona), a branch in Murcia, and its headquarters in Santa Perpètua de Mogoda. With over 5,000 customers worldwide and a presence in international markets, innovation, personalized service, and quality are fundamental to its business.
The project has included establishing organizational boundaries, collecting data on energy consumption, transportation, industrial processes, material use, and waste generation, among other aspects, and subsequently calculating emissions using appropriate emission factors. This work has resulted in an emissions inventory for the organization and the establishment of a calculation methodology aligned with the GHG Protocol, ISO 14064, and the guidelines of the Spanish Ministry for Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge (MITECO).
Beyond simply calculating the Carbon Footprint, the project aims to provide SORSA with a roadmap for decarbonization, identifying opportunities for innovation and actions designed to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and improve adaptation to climate change. The areas of action identified include energy efficiency, mobility, improvements to production processes, efficient resource use, and waste reduction.
The project's outcome will allow SORSA SA PACKAGING SYSTEMS to have a quantified starting point to prioritize future investments and environmental actions, to progressively move towards a more efficient and low-carbon production model and to strengthen its sustainability strategy.
With initiatives like this, SORSA reaffirms its commitment to innovation, environmental improvement and the fight against climate change, integrating sustainability into its business strategy and moving towards a more efficient, resilient business model prepared for the environmental challenges of the future
